Hellenic Cables-Hellenic Cables signs an inter-array cable supply agreement with Vattenfall for three offshore wind parks in Norfolk, one of the largest offshore wind zones in the world

Approximately 850km aluminum conductor inter-array cables will be supplied to interconnect the wind turbines of each string and each string to the offshore substation

Athens, 26 April 2023

Hellenic Cables, the cables segment of Cenergy Holdings, signed an agreement with Vattenfall to supply the inter-array cables for the Norfolk Offshore Wind Zone. Hellenic Cables will supply the Norfolk Offshore Wind Zone with approximately 850km of aluminum conductor cables which will link the wind turbines of each string and each string to the offshore substation, thus assisting to energize what will result in one of the largest offshore wind zones in the world.

Under this contract, Hellenic Cables will design, manufacture, test and supply the 66 kV XLPE-insulated subsea inter-array cables and the associated accessories.

The cables will be produced at Hellenic Cables’ vertically integrated, state-of-the-art submarine cables plant in Corinth, Greece. Highly qualified and experienced personnel following best working practices ensure the delivery of high-quality products and services. Cable production will take place through the years 2025 to 2028 according to the project’s delivery time schedule.

The Norfolk Offshore Wind Zone will provide electricity to approximately 4.6 million homes, and upon its completion, it will be one of the largest offshore wind zones in the world.

Catrin Jung, Head of Offshore Wind at Vattenfall, stated: “We’re really pleased to be working with Hellenic Cables, who will be providing the inter array cables for our Norfolk Offshore Wind Zone. This is another important milestone for the project and Vattenfall’s mission for fossil fuel-free living within a generation.”

Rob Anderson, Project Director of Vattenfall’s Norfolk Zone, said: “Offshore wind will help keep costs down for billpayers, reduce our reliance on expensive foreign gas, and help us to deliver net zero. The agreement with Hellenic Cables brings us another step closer to delivering one of the world’s largest offshore wind zones which will provide over 4.5 million UK homes with clean, low cost power.”

Kostas Savvakis, General Manager at Hellenic Cables, commented: “We are delighted that Vattenfall has renewed our collaboration and once again entrusted Hellenic Cables with supplying its high quality cables to Norfolk, one of the world’s largest offshore wind zones. We welcome the opportunity to work with Vattenfall once more and successfully execute this flagship project.”
