Hellenic Cables-Hellenic Cables among EU Climate Leaders 2025 by Financial Times

Recognized for climate action and sustainability progress

Athens, 30 April 2025

Hellenic Cables, the cables segment of Cenergy Holdings, is proud to announce its Inclusion in the Financial Times’ EU Climate Leaders 2025 list, a prestigious recognition of companies being at the forefront of sustainability and climate action in the European Union. This recognition reflects Hellenic Cables’ commitment to balancing strong financial performance with long-term environmental sustainability.

The inclusion was attributed to the validated net-zero and near-term climate targets through the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), the annual reduction of scope 1 and 2 emissions intensity as well as other climate related parameters.

Notably, Hellenic Cables pursued its capacity enhancement investments without compromising its group-level decarbonization commitments. As a result, a 16% reduction of core emissions intensity (tones of scope 1 and 2 per 1mn € in revenue) was achieved in the reported timeframe, corresponding to a 10% absolute reduction of direct (scope 1) and indirect (scope 2) carbon emissions. Specifically, the cables segment made significant steps in reducing energy consumption and carbon emissions across its manufacturing operations, with emphasis on renewable energy procurement through PPAs. However, our actions go beyond scope 1 and 2 emissions, as portrayed by the ambitious scope 3 SBTi target set by the company. Such a target is even more ambitious considering the segment is active in the manufacturing sector that relies heavily on carbon-intensive materials. Hellenic Cables supports the consumption of low- carbon raw materials, and maximization of recycled raw materials to replace primary metals. Those efforts relied on strategic supply chain partnerships working with our suppliers on exploiting technological advancements and adopting the industry’s best practices.

As transparency is fundamental in sustainability reporting, the climate and energy transition plan of Cenergy Holdings subsidiaries are always supported by transparent, objective, and publicly available commitments, including clearly defined targets and a detailed and realistic implementation plan. Cenergy Holdings subsidiaries commit to being at the forefront of energy transition infrastructure, prioritizing climate action guided by their strategic vision and robust business model, delivering resilient and sustainable solutions for the future.

About European Climate Leaders

Europe’s Climate Leaders 2025 is a list of 600 European companies that have achieved the greatest reduction in their greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions intensity and made further climate-related commitments. These two factors are combined to produce an overall score for each company. For the first of these, the compilers looked for businesses whose GHG emissions intensity fell the most between 2018 and 2023. Emissions intensity is defined as tonnes of Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions of CO₂-equivalent per €1mn in revenue. The 2018 and 2023 figures were used to calculate the compound annual rate of reduction, expressed as a percentage, which contributed 80 per cent of the overall score. For the second, the compilers assigned a score based on: transparency and extent of Scope 3 emissions reporting; reduction in absolute Scope 1 and 2 emissions; and commitment to net zero and collaboration with CDP and SBTi. This accounted for 20 per cent of the overall score. For more information, please visit Europe’s Climate Leaders 2025.
